Explorers

What are Explorers?

Explorer Scouts are the fourth section in Scouting and is for 13.5 – 18 year olds. Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from Leaders.

This section includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections if they wish to do so.

From September 2015 we will be offering Explorers the opportunity to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze or Silver Award with expeditions planned for summer 2016.

Skills and Activities

Within Explorers, there will be many opportunities to learn new skills and take part in activities. What skills do you want to learn? Want to learn amateur radio and use your skills at an event? Try your hand at media and marketing, want to be the next Bear Grylls and learn and use survival techniques? Whatever your interests now or in the future, Explorers has something for everyone.

Activities available to Explorers are endless. Rifle shooting, archery, canoeing, sailing, climbing, caving, crate stacking, raft building, clay pigeon shooting, abseiling, hill walking, karting, zorbing, cycling, orienteering, scuba diving, white water rafting … If you can think of an activity you want to try, we will help you organise it!

Wednesday nights not enough?

There will be many opportunities for weekends away throughout the year. Ranging from indoor accommodation with games rooms to back to basics camping under shelters and cooking on fires. There will also be opportunities for international camps. With Explorers encouraged to take the lead we are excited to see where our 2016 camps will take us!

New section opening in September 2015.
